I especially like that the timer doesn't beep until a minute or two after the coffee stops dripping. Stays hot too. This is a great deal on a great coffee maker. It does an excellent job brewing coffee. That way it's perfectly hot. And the lid of the coffee pot is designed to slow evaporation, so the coffee stays fresh. And hot. All coffee makers should perform as well.
It sort of snaps back on but I am waiting for this to fail. My main problem with this is that the part of the handle that holds the lid (precariously,it seems) keeps falling off. Good coffee, another less than stellar design. I replaced my Cuisinart machine with this one since the Cuisinart was poorly designed and impossible to clean. This one basically works well, although the clock/timer can be a bit of a pain.
I wish it came off so I could put it in the top of the dishwasher. My only complaint is the lid is attached to the carafe making it a little harder to clean. This is my second Krups coffeemaker. It makes great tasting coffee and my first one lasted three years.
I've recently ordered a Cuisinart coffee maker to replace this one. I had to glue them back together. Oh, well. It also imparts a "plastic" taste to the coffee.
I've always had good luck with Krups products, but not so much this time. I'm just going to throw the Krups away. I should have read the reviews first. After two days of owning this coffee maker the handle on the carafe fell apart.
I thought this was my imagination until I did a little research and found several other reviewers complaining of the same problem. The plastic smell and taste can't be healthy. The handle is apparently made of two molded pieces of plastic, and they have come apart. I could live with that if it wasn't for the strong burning plastic odor this machine produces while brewing.
The water gauge is badly placed and too narrow - bubbles form in the gauge making it useless as a measure. That it took three weeks of use before the smell of new, wet plastic infusing the coffee subsided also makes me wonder what has happened to the quality I'd come to expect.Krups seems to have decided to let appearance trump function, resulting in a machine that looks better than it works. I've been using Krups coffeemakers for over 20 years, this being the fourth I've purchased. The attached lid on the carafe makes it harder to clean. Unlike its predecessors, I expect I'll be replacing this machine before it quits working. It may also be the last. Programming the device is moderately frustrating, with less than clear directions.
